iCloud sync doesn't work

Paste uses iCloud to automatically sync your clipboard history and pinboards across all your devices. It does not require any additional configuration. However, depending on factors such as your network environment and software configuration, it may sometimes require a bit of troubleshooting.

If Paste doesn’t sync on some or all of your devices, try each of the troubleshooting steps below in order. After each step, check to see if Paste is syncing with iCloud. If it’s still not syncing, move on to the next step.

Update your software

iCloud sync works best if all your devices are up-to-date and you’re using the latest version of Paste.

Update your devices:

Make sure that you're using the latest version of Paste.

Check Paste sync settings

Make sure that iCloud sync is enabled in Preferences/Settings → Sync on all your devices.

Syncing a large history for the first time

If you’re syncing a large number of items across devices for the first time, be sure to leave Paste open for a few minutes until this initial sync is completed. After the initial sync, Paste will sync much faster on an item-by-item basis.

The time needed to complete the initial sync will vary depending on your internet connection. For faster sync, it might help to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.

Check iCloud settings

On Mac

Navigate to System Preferences → Apple ID → iCloud and check the following settings:

  • You are signed in with your Apple ID.
  • iCloud Drive is enabled.
  • Paste has an enabled checkbox inside the iCloud Drive → Options… → Documents.

On iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → [Your name] → iCloud and check the following settings:

  • You are signed in with the same Apple ID.
  • iCloud Drive is enabled.
  • Paste is enabled inside the iCloud pane.

If you’re using a cellular network to access the internet, navigate to Settings → Paste and make sure that Cellular Data is enabled. Also, try to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

If everything looks good but sync still doesn’t happen

  1. Make sure you're using the latest version of Paste on all devices.
  2. Try to disable and enable sync again. Do not close Paste until the initial sync is completed.
  3. Reset Paste's iCloud data in System Preferences → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage (right bottom corner, next to the available space indicator) → Delete Documents and Data and then disable and enable sync on all devices.
  4. Contact us and provide the following info:
    • What device and what version of Paste you're using
    • Error messages from Preferences → Sync if any
    • Any other useful information or any steps you have performed
