Connect Paste to VS Code
Connect Paste to VS Code to use your clipboard history as context in an MCP-compatible AI extension. Once connected, your AI tool can search Paste, work with copied items, save new items, and manage pinboards on your Mac.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
The latest version of Paste installed on your Mac.
VS Code installed on your Mac.
An AI extension in VS Code that supports MCP.
Paste running on your Mac.
How to connect VS Code
Go to Paste Settings.
Open MCP & AI Tools.
Turn on Enable MCP.
Click Connect AI Tool.
Choose VS Code.
Follow the setup instructions shown in Paste.
Approve the connection when prompted.
When the setup is complete, go back to Paste. VS Code should appear in the Connected AI Tools list.
Try your first prompt
Start with something simple:
Check Paste for the last thing I copied
Manage access
You can review connected tools in Paste settings at any time.
To disconnect VS Code:
Open Paste Settings.
Go to MCP & AI Tools.
Click the three dots next to VS Code.
Disconnect
You can also remove Paste from the MCP settings in your VS Code AI extension.
Things to know
Paste MCP runs locally on your Mac. VS Code can connect to Paste only after you approve access. Setup may depend on the AI extension you use in VS Code. Your clipboard history stays under your control, and you can remove access at any time.
