Edit hyperlinks and other formatted text

When I save formatted text to keep as a template, sometimes I will have hyperlinks in there, and when I edit this, it all changes over to plain text. Can it retain the formatting except for when the user changes anything manually, gets rid of the formatting, or changes hyperlinks. (bullet points, text color, font, etc should all remain the same unless manuall changed).
